Best beaches in Sorrento
Looking at the picturesque coast of Sorrento, it is hard to believe that these beauties are of natural origin: rocks of bizarre shapes, fragrant citrus trees, a warm sea playing with sapphire and turquoise hues, and sparkling southern sun. The local species inspired artists and poets from around the world. Sorrento called Goethe, Nietzsche, Rossini, Stendhal, Dickens and many other prominent people their home. The city of Sorrento perched on the rocks, so the descent to the Gulf of Naples cannot be called simple. Bathers will have to go along steep paths or go down stairs, but tourists quickly get used to minor inconveniences that cannot ruin the long-awaited vacation.
Most beaches are paid, because they belong to hotels or the municipality, you will have to pay from 5 to 15 € for entry. If you try, you can find free plots, but for the use of sun loungers and umbrellas you have to pay about 3-4 €.
In most cases, it will be necessary to rent these attributes of a comfortable beach holiday, since the coastal strip is very narrow, and it is hardly possible to settle the towel in the aisle in order to sunbathe.
Almost all beaches are located west of Sorrento. Moreover, the closer the beach is to the tip of the peninsula, the more rocky and harsh it is. Only a few sandy areas securely hidden in chamber bays are accessible.
META DI SORRENTO
Meta di Sorrento is a small town in the suburbs of Sorrento with the eponymous large beach. It is divided into 2 parts: Marina di Alimuri (sand zone) and Spiaggia di Meta (pebble zone). There is everything for a great pastime: cafes, restaurants, water activities, sports grounds, toilets, changing cabins. There are always a lot of people on the beach, especially from mid-June to September, so you should come early in the morning to take a place.
MARINA PICCOLA (SAN FRANCESCO)
The beach is located in the eastern part of Sorrento. To go down to it, you have to overcome a steep staircase that starts from Villa Communal in the very center of the resort. The coastline is a mixture of pebbles and sand, on which sun loungers are in orderly rows in the shade of umbrellas. There are 4 paid zones and 1 free. The water is clean and clear, but those whom it does not suit for some reason can swim in the outdoor pool, admiring the fishing boats swaying peacefully on the waves. There are showers and toilets.
This recreation area is not located in Sorrento itself, but in the small village of Nerano on the way to Amalfi. The place is famous for 2 beaches: Marina del Cantone and Geranto in the bay of the same name, which is part of the Punta Campanella nature reserve. A small sandy beach, carved by water in the rock, looks picturesque. Toilets, changing cabins and cafes are not.
BATH HOUSES DELLA REGINA JOVANNA
This is one of Sorrento’s iconic landmarks, located in Capo di Sorrento, a small fishing village, known since ancient times. People come here to see the ruins of the ancient villa of Bagni della Regina Giovanna. Legend has it that a long time ago the passionate Queen Giovanna lived in her. She threw her lovers after a stormy night into the water from a cliff. There is a small wild beach on the shore where stairs and wooden walkways lead. You can sunbathe on flat rocks. A miniature bay is separated from the sea by an arch in the rock. Crystal clear water seems turquoise due to the white rocky bottom, steep banks are buried in emerald greenery. MARINA DI CASSANO
This beautiful beach is located in Piano di Sorrento, 3.5 km from Sorrento. You can get to it by regular bus, which runs regularly throughout the day. The beach, covered with black volcanic sand, lies about 500 m from the village. An unhurried life flows here, it is absolutely inappropriate to rush into such a paradise. The beach has all the amenities. The bay with many boats looks like a multi-colored kaleidoscope, restaurants along the coast invite for a gourmet dinner. The cliffs with grottoes complete the picture.
LA PIGNATELLA BEACH
The rocky beach is in Capo di Sorrento, about 2.5 km from Sorrento. The small coastline is all covered with stones. You can get to Pignatella from the side of Puolo Bay. The entrance is free. There is a rental point for umbrellas and sun loungers, however, it will be problematic to place these attributes of a comfortable stay on a very rough beach.
It is the most beautiful beach in the vicinity of Sorrento. Formally, it refers to the ancient village of Marina Grande, in whose honor it is named. The multi-colored facades of houses, fishing boats, cozy restaurants on the shore create a special cozy aura that has hardly changed in the last few hundred years.
